What Trauma Does

Trauma makes you be on-guard and easy to get upset. It’s hard to relax and feel safe. Then, you get exhausted and shut-down.

It makes you doubt who and what to trust, even yourself. You may push away the loved ones, or attract the wrong people.

You know what you “should” do, but can’t act on it. Then, you get upset with yourself for not doing the right thing.

You come to the conclusion, “There must be something wrong with me.”

If you relate to this, trauma therapy can be very helpful to you.

I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.

Carl Jung

What is Trauma?

Trauma is not always what you think of.

Trauma is something that was “too much, too fast,” like a car accident or betrayal. It is something you never expected to happen to you.

Trauma can be something “too little for too long,” like growing up in a home with little love and care. It is something that shouldn’t have happened.

Sometimes, it’s not clear whether you had trauma. But, if you can relate to below, then, integrative trauma therapy can be helpful to you.

  • Been told that you are “over-reacting,” “too emotional,” or “have a chip on your shoulder.”
  • Have a hard time saying “no”
  • Can’t find healthy relationship
  • A pattern of under- or over-achievement
  • Have on-going conflicts with important people in your life

Trauma therapy will be helpful even if you don’t remember the details of your trauma. With the newer trauma treatment, you won’t have to talk about the details.

No trauma is too big or too small, too old or too recent to bring therapy.

You’ve survived the trauma. It’s time to heal and grow.

Traumatic event has already happened and you have survived it. The worst part is over, even if it doesn’t feel like it yet. You can put an end to the survival. You can learn to heal and grow.

Imagine being able to stay calm even when triggered, relax when it’s appropriate, bring out the best of yourself, and build the nourishing relationship that you’ve been longing for.

“… trauma is a fact of life. It does not, however, have to be a life sentence. Not only can trauma be healed but with appropriate guidance and support, it can be transformative.”

Peter Levine

Integrative Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy has changed during the last few decades. We now have many effective treatments for PTSD, Complex Developmental Trauma, and other trauma related struggles.

Talking about trauma alone does not always heal the wounds.

Together, we will connect your thoughts, emotions, and what your body has been telling you all along.

By doing so, you will understand why you are having overwhelming emotions. It will explain why you do things that you are not proud of. And, you will learn how to change it.

With the understanding, you will have a new sense of hope. Through practicing the skills, you will build the confidence in yourself. Soon, you’ll feel safe enough to start stretching yourself a little by little.

Imagine what your life could be like if you take the step forward today.
